Mitchellville, Maryland-(April 12, 2007) Rashid "7 And Sum Change" Byrd of the SBA Allstar Team has been cast to play the role of former NBA player Artis Gilmore in the New Line Cinema movie "Semi-Pro". This will be the first acting role for Rashid who has previously appeared in commercials and basketball documentaries.
SBA Director of Basketball, Matthew Rosner visited with Rashid and the cast in Los Angeles while they were rehearsing the basketball scenes.
The filming will wrap up in May and New Line expects a 2008 release.
The Flint Michigan Tropics are an American Basketball Association team that is on the verge of collapse and Will Ferrell, who stars as the team's owner, coach and player, is a former NBA benchwarmer who tries to get revenge by leading his hometown Tropics to the Big Leagues. Semi-Pro also stars Woody Harrelson and Andre 3000 who plan to make this basketball comedy one of the best sports films of all-time.
